Yes interesting as you say, maybe it has been re-built at some stage.

We set off for the final leg to Coventry this morning at 7:30.

Image

I say we loosely as Jo was still in bed. You can see the West Coast mainline in the background.

We stopped at Hawkesbury to empty the loo and get rid of rubbish. We moored under this rather interesting sculpture.

Image

On the same theme as my picture of the rather nice canal in Rugby, this is the rather nice canal in Coventry complete with the absolutely adorable Jo.

Image

There is an interesting road bridge in Coventry.

Image

We arrived at the basin and met Catherine the boat painter. We had to enter the basin, and hang around whilst she moved the boat blocking access to her wet dock. Then we reversed in. I say we - I mean Jo.

She was rather pleased with herself.

Image

Back home now and no boat for 7 weeks!

Cheers Graham

Great pictures Graham, and as you say 'with the absolutely adorable Jo', I am glad that she looks so well, (especially having to put up with you) :D

I am sure that at some time I will be able to use the top photograph, along with others in your Blog.

Great photos, must admit I didn't know there was a dock in Coventry.

It is in Stoke Heath Basin. It used to be the site of the Club Line Cruisers . We hired from there once.

Image

Apparently it used to be a dry dock.

The second repaint is under way.

Image

She has removed the paint from the sides and roof and will now do the bits under the window frames etc.

This is being carried out by Catherine Foster. You can see her facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/Foster-Boat-Painting-701790593289788/

Unlike previous painters (who seem to have gone out of business) I could mention she will also fill all the pits so that the surface will be perfect.

Cheers Graham

It will still be blue ( a different make of blue as Catherine believes that the one used before is not very good) and cream, there will be some changes on the roof so that the brass work is surrounded with gloss paint rather than non slip to make cleaning easier. The name will run straight across the back panel with scroll work above and below. The stupid birds on the back panels will stay but they may feature elsewhere. The inside of the doors will all be cream rather than blue to match the curtains better. She is sending weekly updates. Cheers Graham

A little out of order but this is what Catherine found when she took out the windows.

A single coat of primer only.

The index plates didn't survive removal so we are just going for a sign written number instead. Better than attaching an aluminium plate to a steel boat anyway.

C&RT have moved the date for the closure of the Oxford Canal by 5 days giving us a little more float in re-paint programme. Catherine is maintaining the schedule though as she has another boat due in.

When we get the boat back we need to winterise her straight away. I keep meaning to do something about directly pumping the hot water system overboard rather than via the bilge.

Slight snag is that the mods would need to be done with the system empty.

Cheers Graham

Isn't winter time the best time do it, no water in the system, less chance of any ice damage,

Yes, what I meant was I still have to do this one via the bilge pump and then my wet and dry vacuum cleaner. I need to get round to the mods this winter.

Cheers Graham
