I feel that the photographs and BLOG, thanks Laurie, confirm that the gate is as we would expect it to be.

I am not sre if I should send theses photographs to the boss at Mountford Models Ltd.

In theory you will be doing them a favor.
Agreed Laurie, thanks, I will.

Having looked at their website, and the images of some of their "narrowboats", I think you could be in for the long haul if you do. Accuracy clearly isn't high on their list of priorities.

Remind me of an old ad, would you buy a car from this man? containing a picture of a clergyman. If they make such a glaring error how can you trust any of their products

My e-mail to Mountford Models inclding the photographs.

Dear Mr Love.

After posting your response on the forum. members posted the attached
photographs. I have sent them in good faith to save possible future
embarrassment for both you and your customers. I hope that you will accept
them as useful and helpful advice for future moulds of the lock, rather than
a criticism.

With Best Wishes

Yours Sincerely

Maurice R Brown

And the response.

Dear Mr Brown,

Thank you, and let us please let this be an end to the matter. We are very
happy with our model - as far as we are concerned it meets fully all of our
requirements for a generic lock. .

I am very grateful for your input here and wish you and your colleagues
well...

Yours sincerely,
David Love,
Managing Director
Mountford Metal Miniatures Ltd.

Maurice R Brown

Very odd response, still it's his problem that his company is happy making non realistic models. I assume that's why his other company Waterline closed.

I agree it is very odd, maybe it's just me but I think his response is very off hand, almost telling me to mind my own business, it's his business and he will do what he wants, right or wrong.

You've probably already guessed I won't be bying any.

I must admit, if I were a model user, which I'm not, attention to detail would be top most on my list. I did a lot of photographic work many moons ago for a model company and they went to extreme measures to ensure the customer got a realistic model. One example was they made a model of the German battle ship Bismark being attacked, on the model they showed that their torpedo tubes were empty. When challenged about this they proved the ship left port without any!! Another model they made and earn't money showing it was "The charge of the light brigade" this was banned in several towns due to the explicit violence. "We can't let Alex see a horse being killed"
:)

I am not a purist in any way with my layouts, they are built for enjoyment rather accuracy with minute details, but as far as I am concerned this an error with a major not minute detail.

I've just caught up with this topic. Looking at the photo the foot holds are blocks and laid ontop of the previous one making them look like steps, therefore pushing the gate open with your back agains the beam will not give you any grip as you would slip of the step. Also what are bollards doing outside of the gate. Basicaly it's a load of crap, and i'm not a model maker.

I don't want to labour on this topic but (there is always a but isn't there) I was in my local model shop this morning and he is selling N scale boats made by this company. They are reduced to get rid of them, and they are labelled on the packaging as barges, not narrowboats and NO I didn't buy any.
