I have added a junction signal covering the main down line and the chord to the up line.

This is the view from Albert Hall waiting for the guards whistle.

The semaphore is wired but yet to be connected to the control panel.

I needed a junction signal at the entrance to the main station. Initially I used Train Tech colour light with feather but during a cock up in construction it died. I built another but accidentally fried one LED.

I decided to bite the bullet, gat my credit card out and buy a Dapol one. Here it is.

Image

It is very realistic and even bounces the signal arm as it returns to stop but...

It stared changing by itself for no apparent reason. It turns out they are sensitive to the supply and the auxiliary supply from my power unit seems too noisy. I have added a smoothed power supply.

One exceedingly expensive signal!

It's only money!

Cheers Graham

My exceedingly expensive signal is playing up again. It seems to be responding to the track cleaners. They work perfectly until the track cleaner fires and then be we get random uncontrolled operation.

Hornby dublo o made a good junction signal. There are some for sale on eBay.

I have put a ground signal in to control the exit from the sidings into platform 1.

I have also made a junction signal for Little Snoring in the Marsh.

This is made from two of the ground signals plus an old Triang signal column. Local planners protested about its proximity to the grade 1 listed tunnel mouth but I ignored them.

If it's not health and safety, there's always someone to moan about something or other. :D

So there I was walking past the local cancer charity shop when I saw two old engines in the window. £24 later I owned them.

Image

They were a Triang M7 and a Wren R1. The R1 is the old Hornby Dublo model. It has been repainted and apart from a quick swap on polarity to run in the same direction as the Triang engines worked straight from the box.

The M7 was a different beast and had also been repainted. The power collection panel on the bottom was in pieces. They were an odd design slotted into the chassis at one end and screwed at the other. The other end also included a v shaped socket for the training bogie arm. I made a new one out of printed circuit board, brass plate and the original wire. Not the prettiest piece of model making but it works. The body attachment was also badly broken so I made a new one from plastic tube heated to take the brass insert and then glued into an enlarged hole. The loco runs well now.

I am very pleased with the new additions to my railway but I need to enlarge my engine shed.

Cheers Graham

When we were on the boat at the weekend we visited an antique shop in the old barracks at Weedon. They usually have a selection of trains there. I bought a 3F tank locomotive. It is fitted with synchosmoke. It is a Triang engine rather than Triang- Hornby so is pre 1965. It is in excellent condition with no damage to the transfers at all and the wheels look to have had minimal use. Always wanted one of these. I think the smoke unit may need re-packing but the element is intact.

I have been mucking around with an old triang signal gantry and some red and green ground signals to make two junction signals. It didn't go well so I bought two original Hornby colour light signals. I felt slightly guilty as I pulled them from their original box complete with instructions and inspection certificate and bunged them on the railway. I kept the paperwork though.

SSHHHH, I won't tell anyone and we will keep it a secret.

The suspension bridge always looks very impressive to me. (Ha Ha maybe because I have one, well it is actually Chris's he saved up for many weeks when he was a youngster to buy it.)

I always wanted the suspension bridge when I was a kid looking through Triang catalogues. Now I've got one. It is interesting how childhood dreams can drive us still.
