We love our mooring, it is so beautiful. Almost as beautiful as Jo.

Sunset always demands a trip outside with the phone to take far too many pictures.

Thanks Laurie,

We are on the boat again but it is raining quite a bit at the moment so no sunset shots.

I have been working on the loom connections again using my new ratchet crimper to ensure the connections are found and so we won't have a repeat of our failure to start on our last trip.

I have also been finishing the new flooring by sealing the edge between the floor and wall.

Home tomorrow.

Cheers Graham

It's all go, isn't it, Graham, but it is worth it.

Always plenty of work to do on a boat. I'll be glad when this virus thingy is over. As I'm sure you will be as well.

I will be so happy to see nurse with a big syringe full of vaccine heading towards me.

Just to add some spice to life the NHS app woke up on the way home and told me I had been near someone who had tested positive.

It then sent me another message saying they had assesed the risk and I didn't need to do anything.

After a lot of reading I had been under 4m and over 2m from this individual for more that 5 mins.

I avoid everyone! It looks as if it could have been someone in a car park in a nearby car while Jo and I stopped for a coffee (in the car) or it could have been the boat moored opposite us as they are under 4 metres away.

What joy.

Cheers Graham

Sad times, we went for a short trip using 2 locks and people started to help. So we have not done any travelling since then :(
Another problem at the moment is trying to see a doctor. So far I have been trying for 3 months and no luck :(

We feel the same about boating. We did a small trip with no locks. We had toyed with the idea of going through Hillmorton Locks and Hawkesbury stop lock to enable us to cruise the Ashby Canal.

In the end canal cruising is more than just sailing the boat. It is about visiting places, pubs, coffee shops. It is about chatting to people at locks. So we just didn't see the point. We stay on the boat as a pleasant break with different scenery to home but that is about it.

I am also struggling with the docs. They do try but there is a limit to what is possible with phone calls or one line consultations.

Cheers Graham

Dotterel remains in tier 3, we are in tier 2. Consequently we can't visit her.

Calcutt is closed for overnight stays again so who knows when we will see her next.

Compared to the other problems that the country has this is a trivial issue but I still get a bit annoyed.

I get really annoyed when I see my bozzo neighbours breaking the rules again!

Calcutt will visit the boat for me, put money in the meter and check the bilge so I know she is safe.

Please sir, I want my vaccination now!

Cheers Graham

The Blog restarts!!!!

It is a gorgeous day here on the boat. The sun is shining and I have a bottle of purple moose chocolate and vanilla stout in my hand.

The boat was is a much better state than we imagined, no horrible things growing anywhere.

We have disinfected out fresh water containers that we use when boat is winterised so are using them until we can disinfect the main tank. We have emptied the tank so will get on with disinfecting it tomorrow.

We have changed the beds and will run up the electric blankets to air them.

I have changed the batteries in the smoke and CO alarms.

I didn't need to worry about the automatic bilge pump as the bilge is dry!

There have been plenty of hire boats coming through.

We are here until Sunday and are seeing the grandkids on Thursday or Friday depending on which day favours outdoor meetings the most.

Cheers Graham

We have had good day on the boat, met our neighbours again which was nice.

We have disinfected the water tank with a concentration of Milton that, theoretically, you could drink but it smells a bit of chlorine at the moment. We tend to drink from the portable 20 litres containers when at Calcutt anyway.

Jo set has been cleaning the bits poo off the roof and she dropped the brush in the canal. It floated just out of reach and, before I could get the boat hook, it sank. A little bit of magnet fishing later and we found it!

I started to look at a suspected gear box
Issue but then noticed an electrical fault. The preheater warning light was on all the time. To cut a long investigation short it was an earth fault. The light was getting power via the fuel pump and was earthing via the preheater! All sorted now.

Cheers Graham
