On the move again, weather not good. Wind and rain at the moment. Jo has just taken over driving so I can warm up a bit. Glascote locks in about 20 mins, the exercise will help.

Cheers Graham

We are now on the visitor's Moorings at Curdworth. The weather has been mixed, warm sunshine then torrential rain and it has been windy!

Now for the happy snaps.

Jo restraining Dotterel at Glascote locks.

Apparently these stupid glass panels were put in 3 years ago at Fazeley Junction. I'm surprised that they have lasted as you can't get round the bend without reversing and the bow fender is heading for the glass unless you stop in time.

Image

The locks on the B&F have an interesting foot bridge on the bottom gates.

Image

Jo was also working Curdworth locks which is a step forward for her as she hadn't felt able to cope with the social side when she was depressed.

I suppose that the glass panels must be special laminated glass to fit it with 'elf' and safety, otherwise they would be a major hazard. Still in my opinion not a good idea though.

We are moving again, heading for Spaghetti Junction then on into Birmingham. We aren't doing the Warwickshire ring though. We are going back the same way we came. Mind you lock 2 in Minworth has a blown cill so who knows.

We are moored in Oosel's Street loop. We made steady progress today. We used the Garrison Locks / Ashtead locks route and stopped for lunch at the moorings by Birmingham Uni. We encountered a young lady in distress there. Her Springer was playing up. We agreed to check back on her after lunch. She decided to do without a tow.

In Farmer's Bridge locks we got an anorak round the prop which took a little time to clear.

Photos to follow.

Cheers Graham

We didn't get blown away last night but it was a bouncy kind of experience!

We are staying put in Birmingham today.

Here are some snaps from yesterday.

This is the tunnel under Moor Street Station. It is two way with a nice bend in it.

Coming up Garrison locks.

Image

Tunnel at Ashtead Top Lock. You have to walk through and check the lock is clear before entering the tunnel. The boat struggled through the tunnel against the flow from the lock.

I like the tunnel under Moor Street Station.

In your photograph 'A lock under a bridge on Farmer's Bridge flight' what is the tunnel to the right of the picture?

It is an extension of the side pound to provide enough water between the locks.

We have just been up Birmingham Library. It is a fantastic building with some gardens on the roof.

A different view of Farmer's Bridge.

And Old Turn.

At Curdworth. Feeling a little tired after 27 locks.

Happy snaps!

Oozells Street Loop.

Image

The side pound extension we discussed earlier.

Image

Some of the Farmer's Bridge locks under buildings have a built in lifting point.

Image

We met the broken down young lady again - on the move again. We are friends on Facebook now.

Image

On the B&F they have built a factory over the canal.
