We had our coffee stop in Braunston and went to the community cafe. It is in a very nice traditional building.

Then it was on to Hillmorton, through the locks (we were the 61st boat through today) and now we are moored on the visitor's moorings.

The bread is in the oven. The back deck just above the engine is ideal for raising bread.

The bread is out now.

We left Hillmorton and moored at Rugby for a trip to the town. The bridge over the railway never ceases to amaze me,

After coffee we headed on through heavy rain and passed through Newbold Tunnel.

We are now moored north of Stretton stop. It's a great place for a train enthusiast.

It is an interesting bridge. I am not sure if you know or not, but the path leading to the footbridge was called the Black Path because it was originally surfaced with cinders.

I didn't know that. When we first walked that way there were some very steep steps up to the bridge, now replaced with 4 ramps. The bridge is now on concrete pillars too. I think it may have been raised when electrification took place. Cheers Graham

Yes it has been modified since the original build.

Yes it has been modified since the original build.

We have 3 black paths in Marske. because of their construction using cinders. so when relating to the "Black Path you have to say "the one to Saltburn" or "The one to Redcar" Or "the one behind the Station". they are sometimes refered to as the "ash paths".

It is a nice day but rain is forecast later.

This is the where I hit a wreck in 1974. There was no sign of it and it was mid channel. The boat hit so hard that the back end rose up and the fridge became airborne. We know this because it landed on a coke can!

The Coventry Canal Society are having a lock working day at Sutton Stop in aid of a children's hospital. They work the lock you give them money.

They had a nice boat moored there.

Jo did a fantastic job of the 180 turn through the bridge at the junction. Round in one go. An audience of professionals always helps.

We stopped at their stall for coffee and cake. Heading for Atherstone through the thundery showers.

Cheers Graham

We are now moored at Hartshill after taking water at the yard.

We had a nice sunset last night.

Image

This morning we cruised as far as Atherstone where we stopped to go shopping and have a coffee. There was a classic car show on.

Image

We have come down Atherstone locks.

Image

Image

The wind has picked up to 21 mph gusting to 34 mph. Making crusing a little difficult do we are now moored at Polesworth.

Cheers Graham
