We have picked up Dotterel and are now moored at Anstey.

Glorious day for cruising if a little cold. I have my thermals on!

Jo did a brilliant job getting out of the dock with a two point turn in reverse followed by a sharp turn through the basin bridge.

Photos of boat to follow.

We set of early from Anstey intending to get to Calcutt in one go. We caught up the working boat Badsey at Hillmorton Locks. The owners were back from a month's cruising. They run the cafe above the first lock and always cruise after the season is over. They insisted we go first so we wouldn't have to wait for them to complete the turn to their mooring.

We stopped at the boat shop just after the pub and picked up diesel which means we don't need to drop down Calcutt top lock tomorrow.

The weather steadily improved. By the time we got to Braunston it was gorgeous.

The low Sun made it a bit difficult later.

Later still the sunset was lovely.

After a while we needed the headlight - the New LED one I fitted for the last BCN challenge. Without it we would have to have moored. It was quite difficult to spot the bridge at Napton Junction. We arrived on our mooring with mist adding to the darkness!

Settled in now, I'll try and take some photos of the boat tomorrow.

Cheers Graham

Happy snaps

In the short time between ariving in the dark and taking this photo this mrning a bird has christened the black paint. I cleaned it off after the pic!

Image

Despite the comments about Jo (not made here I hasten to add) Dotterel is the stupid bird with whom I travel. Two stupids birds are painted on the back, one a female one and one a male one. Catherine has added two little birds sitting on the coach lining.

We winterised the boat this morning - so that is it for cruising until next year's season.

Well done to Catherine an excellent job, the 'stupid birds' give it a great final touch.

I've done the woodwork to fit the two LED headlights, the tunnel light can be adjusted with a screw to point to the right and I mounted above the main headlight. I'm now sanding the cratch board ready for new varnish. In the meantime the boat is booked on for blacking, a hull survey ( it is now 25 years old) and to have the rudder straightened. That is all happening next week.

Cheers Graham

It's all go Graham, but so important for a well maintained boat. When finished the look of the boat will be very rewarding. :D
