I've just had a good few days wiring the point motors, I've got 5 to go but they won't be used until I've built the rest of the low level track.

I've run out of room for the chocolate block connectors so will need a new panel to control the signals.

The Grandkids were down at the weekend and they had a good time driving trains. That is what I like about the Triang stuff - you can hit the butters and not worry.

The strip connectors we call chop block, although I also know the term chocolate block.

All those wires remind me of my good old mobile disco days when I used make and wire my own light boxes and effects etc.

I was looking through the second hand stuff that re-started my interest in all things Triang and realised I had not really looked at the Princess. I took it apart and cleaned everything. The slide bars were rusty but responded to a bit of emery, conn rods needed straightening and everything oiled. The tender wheels were seized and the middle set missing but I also has a spare tender. A short while later I made one working tender from the two. I had to strip some paint from the tender body. Well it works not quite as well as my other Princess which I have had since I was 12.

Here are all 3. The rear one is a Rovex plunger model, the middle one from my box of trains from an antique stall and the front is my original.

I'm working on completing the Triang circuit. It needs a lifting section across the door as I don't like the duck under approach.

This is it.

It is made from 18mm ply.

I know there are various ways to connect the power on the lifting section to the fixed track but have you given this any thought yet and if so have you decided on which method you will use.

I'll just use a bit of flexible 3 core cable across the join, one for common and 2 for the other rails.

The interesting development will come when I add the high level modern standard circuit. To save on space this will be directly above the Triang track and on a separate lifting section. I couldn't figure out how to sort out the geometry of getting tracks to line up on one section at two levels.

More progress today as the section across the work bench and the back of the garage is now complete, it includes a change from 18mm board to 12mm in the middle involving a step in the underlying structure.

Confession time - the lifting section is 6mm too high (the difference between 12 mm and 18 mm board so there is a slight gradient across the work bench. It is 1 in 35 so not too bad.

Cheers Graham

I've had a go at one of the platforms with the Metcalfe platform kit but didn't like the result. To use them I have to add two layers of brick to the sides to cope with Triang track. Now the ones in the small original station seem OK but those in the new station looked odd at the joins, possibly because you can view them head on.

I found this video on you tube and liked the idea.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_StQSHMXhSg

I've bought the stone edged sides rather then the Southern style concrete ones.

I've cut the first bit of 18mm board.

Image

And I've cut off all the little bits of plastic on the back of one edge to see how it goes.

Looks good I think.

Image

As you can see I need to edge the ballast.

Although Triang track is a little over scale height wise, the sleeper spacing is much close to reality than the current Peco or Hornby set track

Cheers Graham

I have only ever used 1 Metcalfe kit and that was for a small curved platform in a confined space, without ramps at the end.

I think that it's part of the fun to be able to change things to suit ourselves. :D

I always love the level of detail on your railway.

The platforms are progressing.

These are all the fiddly bits I remove on the back of the edges.

Platform 1 and 2 are now edged with the ballast shoulders complete on platform 1.

Thanks for the compliments Graham.

I admire your layout, it is well thought out and a so much of it is hand built, as you know by your previous help I struggle with the finer details that you put in, hence the hold up with my lock and boats on my N scale layout.

The platforms are progressing well. All the edges done and all gaps filled.

Image

I have drawn an as built plan of the platforms to keep track of the location of the screws holding the platforms down. Otherwise you can guarantee I'll try and drill through them to put the lights and nameplates up!

Ballasting is going well too.

You can just see that the buffers are missing from the goods shed line, I'm extending it to add an end loading capacity.

You can also see some signs of woodwork in the background - the new baseboards!

Cheers Graham

It's coming along great.

Talking about drilling the baseboard, We were making some major changes to our OO layout in 2001, Chris was helping me with baseboard and he drilled part of my finger, fortunately it wasn't too bad. I was under the board and he was on top drilling, I guess I didn't realise exactly just where he was going to drill. There is still a tell tale stain underneath the baseboard,
