Ah! Pork Pies now we are talking. We always used to get one from my first cousin once removed at Christmas. They lived in Lincoln, it was from Melton Mowbray.

Not only the pork pies but the steak pies aswell. There is also another shop around the corner and the competition on quality is quite competitive.

I'm working my way through Jo's 471 pictures she took on our trip to Atherstone to see if I should share some. Watch this space.

In the meantime here is a video of Braunston Junction - not to bad this time.

So here we are settled in the boat, glass of Mackinson Stout in my hand when there is a huge bang followed by a prolonged scrapping sound.

A passing boat had just crashed into us, they chugged off down the canal zigzaging from side to side. Drunk? Incompetent? Who knows.

Cheers Graham

The boat is fine, maybe a scratch or two but we are heading towards Coventry tomorrow to get the boat painted again. Cheers Graham

It threw it down for a while, we are now happily settled in the Old Royal Oak at Hillmorton. The rain should stop later so we will head down the locks to the visitor moorings or perhaps onto Clifton.

Cheers Graham

We have moored at Clifton, visit in Rugby tomorrow then on through the open sewer section north of Stretton and moor somewhere near Hawkesbury.

Cheers Graham

I don't know the area but judging by some of the photographs that I have seen from around there, it is just what you would expect on a canal, scenic and peaceful.

However. this sounds ominous.

It's normally nice even through Rugby. This is the view from the hatch just now,

The bit north of Stretton has been black and smelling of sewage since August. It has been reported but there is no news about it. It lasts for a mile or so and is slowly moving north.

I'm so looking forward to it.

Cheers Graham

We are moored on the section that was previously gross!

It has been a nice cruise this afternoon.

Image

There is an aqueduct about 100 yrs astern. It leads to a very nice farm and an abandoned piece of the canal. We went for a look.

The towpath side is clearly original.

Image

But the other side near the railway is built of engineering brick.

Image

Interesting.

We are a short cruise away from the painter's wet dock, so it's home tomorrow.

Cheers Graham
