Thanks for all the positive comments guys. We left Hillmorton, went down the locks and decided to fill up with water. The tap was so slow we were in danger of using water whilst waiting faster than it filled up. We gave up after 20 mins and went on to Rugby. It is a fair walk to the centre but it does cross the railway giving nice views of speeding Pendolinos. Coffee and chocolate cheesecake! We walked back through a nice park.

Then off again. Later we went through Newbold Tunnel, the light show that did grace it has been switched off.

Image

We moored for the night near a village called Hungerford. The mooring was concrete piled with a railway line attached which gave me a chance to use my new chains. Lousy internet though so no report.

On to Hawkesbury, a fast water point but a slow lock, Jo was suffering caffeine deprivation at this point but I spent the time chatting to a nice young lady from the boat behind. We did the 180 turn through the junction and moored to visit the pub. It took less time to fill Jo with coffee.

Image

We have now cruised through Nuneaton to a very pleasant mooring.

Image

We can see across the valley and watch passing trains.

Cheers Graham

Pity about the lights being turned off, but it was expected. Thanks for the report, oh and Jo looks like she is really enjoying the coffee. :D

We've turned round and come back to Nuneaton. We moored and walked a fair way into town for coffee and essential supplies (wine and chocolate).

A quick passage through Hawkesbury this time with Jo demonstrating her steering skills by getting round the 180 with only one reverse. The onlookers at the pub were impressed.

A very pleasant afternoons cruise followed.

This area is called Anstey Waste!

Image

Ansty itself is passed on an embankment where you are not allowed to moor. Maybe it is because you would look straight into the bedroom windows of the houses below the canal.

Image

We have now moored in a spot which provides excellent train spotting opportunities.

Was that just in case you 'messed up' in front of an audience?

Oh and great pictures once again :D

On again to Rugby, we visited the Museum and Art Gallery. They have an exhibition on about Rugby the game!

The start was quite cool but it warmed up in the afternoon.:

We have come up Hillnorton locks and can see the railway from the lounge.

Happy snaps.

This is in Rugby!

Image

They have interesting art under the bridges.

Image

Jo's usual professional approach to Hillmorton Locks.

Image

And on up the lock.

Image

We were very impressed by this lawn.

Image

Jo seems very attached to the boat's mascot.

Image

And finally the view of the railway line.

Cheers Graham

We cruised from Hillmorton to Braunston yesterday and stopped for coffee and a teacake in the local community cafe. This used to be just a cafe but shut down and now has been re-opened and is staffed by volunteers. It is open on Wednesdays to Fridays 10 til 4 and Saturdays 10 til 1.

Image

The walk back down to the boat is very nice with 5 kissing gates. Image

Dotterel is the one on the left.

Image

Then it was onto our home mooring. And easy tie up this time as our neighbour is out and about so we don't have to go in sideways.

The mooring was as gorgeous as ever. Jo took some photos.

The reservoir

Image

The space where Dale's boat is normally. We have cut back the brambles at this point to try to avoid the muddy patch that resulted last year as everyone walked in one small area. Incidentally we had Blackberry Crumble and custard for tea with the Blackberries travelling about 8 feet from bank to kitchen.

Looking towards the lock.

We wondered down to the boatyard to but an ice cream. There were two boats coming up the lock Nuneaton and Brighton. I last saw them at Bradley when they and Dotterel were trying to turn around at the end of the BCN Challenge. The steerer of Brighton recognized me just about the same time I recognized him. We had a hurried exchange as they were just untying the boats. We were back on Dotterel by the time they want past.

Sunset was nice.

Image

We packed up today but has time for another coffee on the decking at Calcutt.

Image

So it was a very succesful trip enjoyed by us both and with no hint of depression from Jo that has been such a problem in her life.

Now for a few random photos.

I am trying to guess what is under the covers.

I am so pleased that you both had an enjoyable time, it is also good to know that Jo is very much improved.

As usual an excellent pictorial report, the sunset is on the shortlist for Picture of the Month. :D
