The rebuild has started. I need to separate the 4 main sections. They are designed to come apart. It all seems a little drastic though.

The junction for the loop has been removed as has part of the bridge.

The tunnel under the high level has been removed

The fiddle yard under the high level has been dismantled (I don't intend to re-use it).

All the stock has been packed away.

I've bough a load of Triang Super 4 track for the 'historic' section of the new layout

Cheers Graham

So as I said I was buying track on Ebay and then I wondered past my local hospice shop and they had all this for sale.

Except for one bit of series 3 it is all super 4. Condition varies from good to rubbish. That was an interesting link. Looking at the super 4 page I seem to have a piece of track not in the catalogue. It is a power connection straight with built in connectors to with screws to connect the wires.

I'm getting a load more straight off ebay and some points. With space 20 feet by 8 feet to fill I think I'll need plenty.

Cheers Graham

Don't forget to leave space for other things. :D

Are you going to have a basic plan, or let it develop as you build it.

I am not sure if you are aware of AnyRail free software for planning layouts HERE the only drawback is that the free version is limited to 50 pieces of track. I got around this by drawing the plan in 2 sections and then joined them in Paint Shop Pro.

Twenty feet by eight. -- a sizeable room to fill :D . How about a suggestion? Fiddle yard to fiddle yard without a station. See the trains running! 8)

I do want to see the trains running - particularly the older stuff as I recall it never seems that good at shunting. After all the flirting with sound and computers reverting to trains you can actually breathe on without breaking them and that require servicing is attractive. I'm thinking of having the two different standards on different levels. When I get the garage refurbished I'll probably just start laying out what I've got on the floor and evolve something.

The garage has been emptied to a degree, our handy man is getting a new garage door and doing the ceiling, I've painted the walls and started planning!

Hopefully then you will soon be able to start the rebuild.

Was that the hard part --------- or the easiest? Either way it had to be done. It brings you closer to the fun part :D
