I don't know what plans you have whilst actually in Llangollen, but a walk along the path to the start of the canal will take to the Horseshoe falls on the River Dee.

Also Plas Newydd may interest you.

In Llangollen my sister and I will be reliving childhood.I may not have mentioned it before but we are mostly Welsh. Our parents came from this region so we spent our holidays in Wrexham or a Welsh village called Brynteg. Llangollen was visited regularly. I fancy going up Castell Dynas Bran again but Jo is less kee

OOPs, sorry, am I selling coal to Newcastle.

What a lovely area to spend your childhood. I am born and bred in Whitson, Lancashire but as mentioned in previous posts on the forum, I have visited North Wales many, many times by car, coach and most enjoyably cycling. It is a beautiful country to visit, I still enjoy my trips there, but unfortunately not on my bike anymore

Slight confession, quite a bit of the English side of me comes from Widnes which was in Lancashire until 1974.

I have spent my entire life in Southern England though.

NO!, NO! NO!, it is STILL LANCASHIRE, the changes made then were only administrative areas, not changes to the historic countries with their original boundaries, all still exist. Widnes is very near to me, maybe 5 miles at the most, home to my local Widnes model shop.. On this side of the River Mersey is Lancashire including Manchester.

Please don't get me on my high horse this is something that really annoys me, to be told that I come from Merseyside, I am a true LANCASTRIAN, born and bred.

Sorry Graham

We are currently moored about half a mile below New Marton Locks. We can see the Clwydian Mountains from here.

We stayed at Whitchurch yesterday and picked up Jo. We also finally got my sister checked out. They bought an ambulance down the path by the Whitchurch arm to the junction. She has a broken rib. So it is bed rest and loads of painkillers for the rest of the trip.

We stopped at Ellesmere for supplies, the town arm was full but we stopped a little past it, went to Tescos and then reversed across the canal to the waterpoint and rubbish disposal point. It was pretty chaotic there with so many moored boats and so many on the move.

The Ellesmere arm was where I started my first canal holiday in 1971.

We are about 6 hrs from Llangollen.

Cheers Graham

We arrived at Llangollen after a fairly chaotic trip with hire boats galore. We followed the slow boat from hell who pulled out in the midst of a disarray of hire boats, passing, aground, upside down, we then had to cruise variably in idle, neutral or reverse over the aqueduct and up the branch to Llangollen. Fortunately they decided to turn around and let up pass before they did so. On the plus side I had plenty of time to admire the view from the aqueduct. I would say Pontcysyllte aqueduct but I can't spell it.

Anyway we had a nice coffee and cake in town and headed out once more. We moored just south of Whitehouses Tunnel. We are moving again. Happy snaps will have to wait for a better phone signal.

Cheers Graham

We are now moored at Whitchurch. Speed has picked up to a more respectable 3 mph now we are going downstream. Jo drove through Chirk Tunnel and across the aqueduct. Tomorrow she is off home again.

We are 172.5 miles and 141 locks into the trip with 132 miles and 100 locks to go.

Signal abysmal so text only posts for now.

Cheers Graham

Now moored just past Wrenbury Mill. Jo has gone home. I saw her off at Whitchurch Station. I gave her a kiss and said loudly, ' Next time your husband is away come and see me.' Of course this is exactly what happened this time. We have refuelled (30 gallons) and pumped out the loos.

Cheers Graham

We are moored on the Middlewich branch overlooking Winsford top flash. The weather is gorgeous but we are running short of lemon scented paper knapkins.

Good Internet here so happy snaps.

You are still in what I would call my territory.

Thanks for all the photographs of the Llangollen branch, I relived every mile with you. :D
