We were in no hurry today so started fairly late.

We needed drinking water as the boat filtration system is winterized. We stopped before Buckby top lock. There is a boat there that may have exceeded 14 days on the visitor mooring.

Image

We encountered a very nice guy who was moving a boat to Wilton Marina by himself and shared the locks with him.

There was plenty of water in the canal today.

We are moored in Weedon about 20 mins from the boatyard.

Tomorrow set off, arrive at boatyard, fill up with diesel, take Jo's car to Calcutt, pick up my car then Jo heads home, I go back to the boat yard, load car, hand over boat and take my niece home.

Cheers Graham

We travelled tha last mile to Stowe hill, filled up with diesel and moored in the marina. They are hoping to start work tomorrow. Then we just had to do the car shuttle and head home.

Cheers Graham

The work on Dotterel is going to well. Hull survey is complete with nothing to be worry about. Three windows have been resealed, the hull has been pressure washed and the first coating of black applied. Inverter fitting is underway.

Cheers Graham

On the boat moored just round the corner from Stowe Hill. The heating is working very well but I still need to study the controls a bit. Up Buckby locks tomorrow and then back to Calcutt on Sunday.

Cheers Graham

Our trip back to Calcutt went well.

We went past some interesting boats near Weedon.

Image

We shared Buckby locks with a young man who had just bought his boat. He had a friend to drive the boat but had never worked a lock before. We moored on the west side of Braunston Tunnel.

The next day Jo decided on an early start and we were moving at dawn.

Image

I had to take the standard photo of the boat in a lock.

Image

I also fancied a picture of the lock gear.

Image

It was nice day to cruise back to Calcutt and we met our new neighbour, Baz, when we got there.

Cheers Graham

I am pleased that all went well

The second photograph is a good contender for 'Picture of the Month', where actually is it, please.

So there I was reading the online manual for the new heating system. I would like to say it was a pleasant way to spend some time but it wasn't. Why are these systems so complicated, why do I need to tell it my inside leg measurement so that knows when to get going on a Friday in 2056?

I had left the system on frost protection as this seemed logical and I couldn't at that time figure out how to switch it off.

So yesterday, at home, I discover that their idea of frost setting is +12C. In other words the system will run 24 hours a day at the moment. A little expensive on diesel in a fully winterized boat.

So today a two hour drive saw me sort it out and another 2 hour drive bought me home again. What joy.

Cheers Graham

We are sitting on our nice warm boat. Up here for a few days.

Canal and River trust have been maintaining the reservoir and revealed an old numbered buoy. It probably dates from when the reservoir was used as a boating lake. The club was formed in the 1950s and kept going until the 1980s

It has been a nice day for walking.
