I have made a new trim tab.

It is made from two bits of 3mm steel so is stronger than the last one and is clamped in 3 places rather than two. I have measured it so I can tell the boatyard what size it is when the time comes to do it properly. I hope it will stay on so that I can show them.

I used my previous design technique of hit it with a large hammer until it looks about right. I was heading for around 30 degrees, it is actually 29!

On the boat next weekend to fit it.

Cheers Graham

When we arrived at the boat the piece of wood supporting the tonneau cover had collapsed under the weight of water collecting on the cover. I need to rethink how to support the cover so it drains properly.

I have removed the burnt oil cooler support or at least what is left of it. One of the mounting bolts has a very damaged thread, I guess this precedes our ownership of the boat. Fortunately the thread in the plate attached to the engine is good so I just need another bolt.

Just a suggestion but a box type beam of aluminium might suffice and it isn't very heavy.

We used aluminium poles and brackets that are designed to support garden netting on Madam Butterfly. I am tempted down that route.

We went for a quick stroll by the reservoir tonight. It was cold and the boat beckoned over the water and under the moon.

The old oil cooler mount or what was left of it has been removed and a new one fitted. The wires that ran across this area have now been replaced. I have one connection still to do then the boat is canal worthy again.

Rewiring complete and everything works. The stop button is more effective, stopping the engine instantly rather than feeling like you need to press it harder to stop the engine so I think I have fixed a fault on the way. I did find a dodgy connection on the power side where the wire broke when I touched it. It had been crimped into a bigger connector which is always a bad idea.

Engine oil, gear box oil, fuel and oil filters ( Dotterel has two) changed. Jo has been painting in the rear cabin making it a lot brighter. DIY on boat is now complete for this month so off home tomorrow.

I decided to dredge our mooring, it is a bit shallow. So I decided to run the boat in reverse whilst tied up and use my rake to clear the silt. It seemed to work but I could feel some obstructions.

This is what I pulled out.

On the boat, I just wish it would stay still. There are white horses on the reservoir.

We have a ring to moor the boat do don't have a rope round the tree anymore.

I have installed a decent sized radiator in the lounge. We used to have a small fin rad which was useless.

It all went quite well except that I forgot that I needed halt inch BSP connectors for the radiator. The plumbing has all the radiators in series so there are no valves.

I was getting ready to go out shopping when I noticed that the old water filler connector which is waiting for a trip to the tip. It had two half inch BSP to 15mm connections on it. Result!

I gave tried the system out and it works well.

Today I have:-

Filled water tank, serialised, emptied it and am now filing it again.

Filled the hot water system and fixed a bad leak from a junction under the bath.

Replaced the drain plug on the hot water tank with one that is easier to remove.

Cleaned out the oil I split in the engine bilge.

Rerouted the throttle cable around the loom.

Finished supporting and taping up the wires I installed following the fire.

Painted the panels by the rear door and under side of the hatch.

Replaced the air filter.

I might finish tomorrow.

Cheers Graham
