We have come down 8 of the 11 Curdworth locks and stopped for lunch Dog and Doublet. It was a slow trip down trying out patience a bit. The canal has a ledge beneath the surface and the stern got caught on a lock landing. Unbelievably stupid arrangement and it appears to be modern. Photos to follow.

Cheers Graham

We are now just outside Tamworth having come up Glascote locks in appalling weather.

More happy snaps.

This is yesterday after we left Brum.

I have been lock wheeling using my folding bike. It worked well but could do with off road tyres.

Image

This is the stupid ledge.

Image

This is a different view of Drayton Footbridge. It has spiral staircases in two castellated towers on either side.

Image

We saw the strange historic boat again today. It turns out it is River Class boat called Kew. It is a converted butty built in the 60s.

Interesting pictures again and yes I agree with you with regards to 'the ledge'.

We have had a long day today. We decided to shorten our cruise home by two days. So today we left the Tamworth area and are now moored on the Northern Oxford in Anstey. We cruised for 10 hrs, leaving at 8 am and mooring at 7 pm with an hour break for coffee at Atherstone.

We saw this boat bring bow hauled in Atherstone lock.

Image

And this one under power.
Image

I asked the lock keepers about this object and it was used to help get the boats out of a long gone basin at right angles and just above the lock.

Image

The section of canal past Atherstone is very pretty and almost river like in places.

We have just come up our 110th lock of the trip. No more left now. Next stop Braunston maybe (depends on moorings) to pick up a bit for Madam Butterfly. Home tomorrow them back to the boat on Saturday! I'm going to a talk at the Dudley Museum. Should have stayed in Brum!

Cheers Graham

We are moored just short of Braunston. We had been following the slow boat from hell and cracked when we saw a nice mooring.Hardly any photos today as we are on familiar waters. We did see our neighbour from Calcutt, they are moored a mile or so behind us.

At Hillmorton locks we saw this Admiral class boat
It is a bit ugly in my view.

Home again after 134 miles and 110 locks.

It was good trip and I am going to put a plaque on the boat next to the BCN challenge ones saying something like 'Jo got this boat to Birmingham'.

It was such an achievement for her and just sums up how well she is today.

We saw one interesting boat today.
