Yesterday we set off and cruised to Braunston. We had dinner at the Boat House, the food was good but the service slow. We moored above the locks at Hillmorton. I tried the pin through the pin method of mooring, normally I use springs here, a fast moving boat pulled the front pins this morning and we lost a pin as a result. I must buy a magnet as I can't find it with a rake.

On to Rugby shortly.

Cheers Graham

We have been to Rugby, turned round and are going to Clifton for the night. There are some nice new moorings at Rugby on some interesting bends but they haven't cut the offside trees so it is very hard to get through. I'll send by photos off to C&RT when I get back. I'll put them on here too.

Cheers Graham

We love Rugby and try to moor by the park. Easy access to the Elsan point.

I didn't know there was an Elsan point at Rugby. We like to walk into town down the path from bridge 58. It crosses the railway on the biggest girder bridge you can imagine.

We are now back at Calcutt. It was chaos at Hillmorton today. Fortunately we seemed to avoid the worst bit and watched it from the cafe.

Cheers Graham

The Elsan is next to the closed down public toilets.

The building on the off side? The water point has been moved to that side so there are less moorings. They closed all the moorings and the water point north of bridge 58 and have extended the moorings on the curvy bit south of bridge 58. I live in fear of meeting other boats there as it can be virtually impossible to pass.

Yep the building on the off side, didn't know about the water point .
I alway try to moor by the park but now might be a problem in the future. On the towpath side it is easier to get to the chinese takeaway (Great Wall of China)
:)

We dropped down the top lock to the wharf this morning to get diesel and a pump out. We found a gap in the bank holiday chaos! There was only one hire boat on the wharf so we came in side on rather than backwards. We sprang the front on the way out as there was a convinent bollard to tie the back rope to. We achieved about 80 degrees using the springing and then just drove round the rest of the turn. U turns our new speciality! Home tomorrow.

Happy snaps to follow.

Cheers Graham

Photobucket is dead! I looked at other hosting sites but am now going to use the Album system on here. I did need to solve one particular problem i.e the size limit. I have used Paint to resize at home but needed something on my mobile. Fortunately I have just changed to an Android phone and there is an App for that! This also reduced my data usage when away from home. So in fact Photobucket have done me a favour!

Here are a few snaps from my recent rip with the Grandkids to Rugby.

Before we started we needed to sort out the hatch as the wood had got wet. Jo cleaned up and painted the metalwork - I did the wood.

Image

We picked the kids up from home and had a happy time on the roof. The kids like the roof.

Image

At Hillmorton there was a glorious sunset.

Image

I mentioned how the new moorings at Rugby are tight, you have trouble avoiding the trees by yourself!

We had coffee at the cafe by Hillmorton locks and admired boats.

There is a wreck at Braunston. I think it is aluminium and the roof has melted. It was moored on the no mooring section too.

Image

We made our way home, daughter picked up the kids and we went for a walk. This included the towpath past our mooring.

Image

Then there is, of course, the obligatory sunset over the reservoir.

I like the app. The slider style sizing tool is good. I'll just delete the other tool.
