Thanks for the pictures Laurie. He seems to be enjoying himself (or is he pretending?) :D

It was really good to meet you too Laurie, what were the chances of you being the first person we saw in Birmingham? I think that photo of me with the pole was on our attempt to turn round in the basin entrance wasn't it? We needed an extra foot.

Cheers Graham

Yes, incredible luck meeting you that way and being able to moor next to each other on the best moorings in Birmingham. It was terrible the way you needed that extra foot to turn due to other boats in the winding hole.
Hope you get your gearbox sorted soon.

Another challenging situation, I just know how you manage to cope with all the challenges that are thrown at you with the BCN.

Time for happy snaps.

My niece, Claire (who did most of the steering in locks) set a theme of pirates.

Image

I was suprised by Knowle locks they are very pretty.

Image

Image

We saw this odd looking boat on the Grand Union coming into Brum.

Image

The first signs of urban decay. I didn't go under those beams they looked very dodgy.

Image

This posh conversion is within 100 yds of the entrance to Typhoo basin were people have made a home from odd bits of material and cardboard under the entrance bridge.

Image

I couldn't fit all of the building in!

Image

My happy crew at the start of day 1 - Chris and Tom.

Image

Odd place to put a lock.

Image

Me polling Dotterel sideways under the skyscraper to make room for a boat coming uphill. 'How did you get there?', they asked, 'Sticks and Magic' said our helmswoman.

Image

Spaghetti Junction

Image

Perry Bar locks were pretty.

Image

We though we had killed Rebecca, she had done at least 109 locks by this point.

Image

The Tame Valley canal is very straight, very polluted with rubbish and remarkably high in places.

Image

Image

On the main line heading for Dudley. The sun was setting by now.

Image

Approaching Netherton Tunnel

Image

I didn't take any photos after that but I may get some more from Claire when I see her.

Cheers Graham

Up to the boat again, clearing out stuff left over from the last trip.

The boat seemed quite empty with just Jo and I on it.

I've filled and painted a major scratch put through the white paint of the front end and discovered that the black paint on the hull is suffering from micro blistering. The painter is going to redo it.

The gearbox is booked into Calcutt for a rebuild.

The new grass I planted in the latest hole in the brambles is doing well.

I also tightened the stern gland slightly.

Home now.

The gear box had been rebuilt by Calcutt. Jo and I are up there tomorrow to take her back up to her mooring via the wharf for pump out and diesel, Cheers Graham
