I want to go from Alton to Ruabon. So I get on South West Trains (my local one) and I find I can get a single for 90 quid. This is via London and Chester. The web site says it will be the cheapest but other tickets may be available. You used to be able to force the system to use different routes but no more. So I got onto East Midland trains - the same result but they have an ammend your journey option which then gives you a chance to force the system to send you via Birmingham. Result is 60 quid. I haven't even started exploring split ticketing at this point. So I split the ticket at Birmingham price now 40 quid. Cheers Graham |
