I have been following this story with interest because some friends of mine are going to Dawlish for the week, tomorrow http://www.exeterexpressandecho.co.uk/N ... story.html

These photographs are live screen prints taken today from this webcam http://www.dawlishbeach.com/live/index. ... x&cPath=18

So what is your best guess for a diversionary route? I favour re-opening the line through Okehampton. Cheers Graham

I have to pass on that one Graham, I don't really know the area that well. I do know that there have been ongoing talks to discuss a possible alternative new route.

I must admit though I do find the webcam on full screen with sound is as good any screensaver that I have come across.

Some are suggesting the Teign Valley route but that has major development on it at the Exeter end.

It was single track steeply graded branch. The Okehampton route is mostly there and was a double track main line. The only snag would be a reversal at Exeter and Plymouth.

Thanks Graham, it will no doubt take many months (years) to make a decision, and then the same to start working on it.
