Really well done Graham. The barge on the right; is it carrying 'coal'?

When I was about 13 my Mum and Dad bought me a Triang Albert Hall for Christmas. I still have it!!!

I have had to replace things as they wore out/broke - it has done many miles.

I have replaced:-

The motor
The complete tender,
The body
The cylinder block
The wheels (for Romford finer ones)

But it is still the same engine legally. There was a test case concerning this about a car whose only original part was the steering wheel. The judge said that a car is a set of replaceable parts and as long as there was a trace back through the parts replaced over time to the original vehicle it was still the original vehicle no matter how many bits you replace.

Anyway the problem is that the wheels are now too fine to run on my super 4 track. I found a chassis I could buy with original coarse scale wheels but this would mean throwing away the only part left from my childhood present.

So I bought another one. It cost me £30 including postage. I was a bit surprised when I got it because it is immaculate. It looks like it has never been run for more than a test. The wheels still have their original blacking and have never even been cleaned.

Cheers Graham

Progress has occurred. All the lights now work and smoking fire and welding scenes now work (note to self take a video and put it on here).

The revised embankment behind the signal box is complete and has a first layer of ground texture on it.

The fiddle yard has been finished. I have placed a number of building on it to give a flavour of a model railway but it is only temporary so I won't do too much. Temporary probably means 5 years!

Image

Wiring the fiddle yard was interesting,n none of the old Triang points work electrically anymore so I have to wire round each one and then, if I need it, introduce an isolation gap.

This is the control panel.

And this is the corresponding track diagram.

Work has now started on the reverse loop. This will be a fixture in the final layout and will have an 009 railway built on top of it. I've had to leave a big hole in the board to enable access for cleaning or rescuing trains. As you can see the loop isn't supported at it's final level yet The 009 will feature a spiral to get down to the canal level and will be a rabbit layout going in and out of the hillside. That is the next major project following the completion of the restoration of the two boards I vandalised when I converted them to double Triang track.

I had a train for Christmas. I've put board in the middle of the reverse loop to allow it to run. In the future there will be a 'rabbit' style railway here. Jo took a video.

Here it is https://youtu.be/soQ52Q0TVSs

Cheers Graham

It is a Minitrains set - HOe - i.e. 3.5 mm to the foot running on 9 mm track.

Cheers Graham

Thanks Graham, at first I thought that it might be HOe, but didn't think you would have narrow gauge. It's the same scale as the Pleasure Park on my OO layout. Great set though. :D

The track at the canal wharf is 9mm so this will connect to that. There is a minor problem of height though - I can feel an inclined plane coming on. Cheers Graham
