The dark nights encourage railway modelling.

The dig is underway and the outside broad cast team are there for a TV series.

Will we get to see the series, or have to be content with the reports. :D

I got a Lima Class 47 - mint in box. Week the older Lima locos will work on Triang super 4 track so it isn't quite mint in box anymore.

I have been doing things to my railway since my last post in December!

I have built but not finished a castle with a Christmas market in the grounds above the narrow gauge reversing loop. It is also a above the modern circuit so required 3 tunnel mouths and a lot of supporting structure.

Image

The market and tree light up and the castle has lights too.

Image

I have also extended the wall supporting the modern system station. I have about 8 feet to go!

It's looking great, keep up the good work. :D

I haven't touched any of my layouts for ages. At the moment I am at the not really interested stage, don't know why but I also know it will pass.

I go though that not interested phase. I describe it as 'I suppose I had better do something with the railway then' . Not 'I want to do the railway.' I guess it is a creative thing really and sometimes that creative spark just steps out of the window.

I have a very good relationship with the owner (Rob) of a tiny antique shop in Alton. If Jo and I enter it simultaneously it is full.

It is called the Tiny Shop and has been on the antiques road show.

Rob knows I collect Triang stuff and I have had a few interesting things including my turntable from him. He has just reopened you dont go in, you just stand at the door and he gets anything you want to see and brings it to you.

The other day we went past and he said, 'I have a few Triang things you may like.' He dug out a Battlespace search light wagon, a hopper wagon and an old chassis.

'How much do you want for them?' I asked

'Nothing', was the reply.

Image

The old chassis will go in the spare box and the hopper wagon does run but will just pose in the yard as the operating mechanism clobbers everything.

The search light wagon has seen better days. I have replaced one wheel set, derusted another and it now runs. The wiring from the wheels to the light is missing and impossible to put back and the bulb and buld mount are missing. The chimney and radar scanner were missing too. I have mocked up the radar scanner and chimney using a photo of one I found on Ebay as a reference. I will put an led in the search light operated by a battery with a mangetic reed switch. A touch of paint on the light is required too.

Teamed up with my 3F rocket launcher and exploding box car this will be a fun train to run occassionally. I also have my eye on a helicopter launcher on Ebay at the moment.

Cheers Graham

I have a working search light. It is fitted with a 3 volt LED powered by a battery and switched on and off with a magnetic switch.

Free gifts from shops are always welcome, especially when it's something that you collect and better still when you can use it on your layout.

The lights are also looking good, keep up the good work. :D

At the weekend I will be discussing some lights and effects for my garden railway and now the track is laid I can play trains.

There are still things to be sorted though.

I have aquired two new trucks for my Battle Space Train.

1) A helicopter launcher - this was working when I got it and the helicopter reached about 4 feet of altitude.

Image

2) A plane launcher - this was missing the trigger so I have had to make one. The aeroplance launches but flying is not its strong point.

Image

I have also added some creepy characters to the Castle. I think Van Helsing thinks he is going to win but he hasn't noticed the one behind him.

I bought a Triang Blue Pullman in an antique shop in Weedon Barracks. I have extended it and put a powered chassis in the unpowered trailer.

Here it is https://youtu.be/c2aXub6D8gI

I used to see Blue Pullmans when I was a kid train spotting at High Wycombe station but never went on one.

Signals!

Image

I am adding signals mostly the old Triang ones with surface mounted point motors to drive them. I still need to connect them

The two at Little snoring actually work.

Image

I have also scratch built a bridge to give access to the high level modern station.

Image

In the background you can see I have covered up the low level to give more space on the high level.

Cheers Graham
