Track has now reached the top.

Unfortunately the change to a 4% gradient on the tightest part of the track means two coaches only.

This may not be the most realistic looking part of the railway but it's fun! to quote you Graham, but isn't that the most important part of modelling. Well it certainly looks it. :D

Yes, it's just the job, but don't be warning me about 'Health and Safety' regulations.

Track laying was gong so well. The dual gauge is across the suspension bridge and the narrow gauge approaching from the loops and then.................

Image

When I laid the earlier dual gauge track I encountered he same snag and had to introduce a bit of track that swaps the narrow gauge from one side to the other. I hadn't spotted that I had the same issue where the narrow gauge seperates from the dual gauge at the other end.

£24 later I have ordered the new piece of track (boy is Tillig track expensive - Brexit you know) it will be positioned in the middle of the suspension bridge.

Tillig track, that's a new one to me so I have just looked it up, it's a novel idea though.

I have liked the idea of dual gauge track since reading about the Crag and Mertenford Railway as a kid. Tillig seemed to offer the best selection of ready made dual gauge.

This is the 'point' that separates the two gauges.

and this is the swappy sides thingy.

The narrow gauge is now connected to the dual gauge track - ballasting is underway.

Image

I saw an article in Railway Miodeller about someone who radically modifies Peco points and I thought I can do something with the old Triang points to enable the two systems to merge and cross the lifting section on one board.

Image

A small sliver of plastic was all that was necessary to get modern stock through the point.

Inspiration followed and the old sidings which would have been under the modern section were swept away, an incline built to get the modern section down to the Triang section and this is the result.

Image

The Triang double track has been widened to allow for an island platform and the modern section will also have an island platform. The station buildings will be high level over both systems.

This is the far end.

Image

There will be a large engine shed, a Brewery Complex encompassing the narrow gauge and low level siding and an exchange goods shed between the two standard gauge systems. The station will be called Dripping Well Exchange.

So there will be 6 stations.

Upper Hogsfoot (the narrow gauge terminus with the return loop), Hogsfoot General (the main Triang terminus), Little Snoring in the Marsh, (the through station by the castle), Little snoring Quayside (the narrow gauge terminus by the canal), Upper Dripping Well (the narrow gauge station at the top of the loops) and Dripping Well Exchange.

Cheers Graham

I have often thought about disguising the Triang Turntable.

This is it.

Image

I had an old Airfix engine shed which seemed to fit the bill.

Image

I think the turntable disc needs a little attention though.

I have started sorting out the landscape around the narrow gauge loops. I decided everything is so tight the only logical explanation is that it was all hacked from rock. I have a grey base colour on them but will add variation and greenery.
