Having acquired a small number of 0.4.0 and 0.6.0 tank engines and wanted to model a little of Yorkshire, 'Sovereign Street' is born.

Image

The street, Sovereign Street, actually existed in Leeds. (I do not know if it does now as there is a huge car park there.) Long before the area was transformed into apartments etc. it was warehouse after warehouse; many serviced by the Leeds Liverpool canal. It was from Sovereign Street that I would travel to Earlsheaton near Dewsbury every week to visit family. The bus I would travel on was either Number 1 (direct) or 1A (via Earlsheaton. The 1A saved me a few pennies. :D

The layout. Although no railway existed at Sovereign street, (Leeds City is only a quarter of a mile away.) the layout is based 'very loosely' on Marsh Lane Goods Yard in Leeds. The backscene is of warehouses giving the flavour I wanted to create.
There is a run - round and two sidings. One siding is to some warehouses, the other to a goods platform and shed. The train services are mainly goods trains with the odd passenger service. Generally Thomas with Annie and Clarabel runs this service. :)

Thanks for the information, Pete. I remember, as a lad of 8 years of age to the age of 15, walking alone? from Leeds City Bus station to Sovereign Street every week. Walking through the area, especially on a Sunday evening, was a scary experience. I did not hang around.

The tram depot near Sovereign Street was converted into a sports arena. Now it is a car park. The warehouses are upmarket apartments etc.

Once I have mastered on posting photos I shall post more.

I used to travel on both. Samuel Ledgard bus when I worked in Otley.

I like the design of the station and the layout is looking good. :D

Only a very small model railway membership here, but we have great ideas and layouts. :D

Another impressive layout. Mine could be good too .... except it's all stashed away in boxes in the attic! For now I must restrict myself to admiring the efforts of others.

Thanks for the compliment, Thumper.
