I met Liesbeth Langford three years ago in Tynedale. Such a charming lady. After much coaxing, she has finally put her parents story together and into print. A story only she thought was interesting ---!

"Written by Candlelight" is the moving and absorbing account of a family's life in the Netherlands under German occupation during WW2. It is a poignant story told through letters written by Liesbeth's English mother to her husband, a Dutchman, closely involved with the dangerous world of Resistance.

The letters are beautifully written, producing an atmospheric and gripping story with the tensions of an ever present occupier and the fear of the unknown collaborator.

A book I shall treasure.

In response to your post in Daily Chat, these factual stories by those involved really do give a good insight to the truth of what has gone on in the circumstances written about.
