I have just finished reading this book about HMS Amethyst and the Yangtze Incident. The story is told through the eyes of the ship's cat Simon. His story from the back streets of Hong Kong and life on HMS Amethyst. Under attack from the Chinese Communists. The hundred plus days held captive and daring escape.

The return to the UK of the ship and crew plus Simon. The heroes welcome. The medal ceremony. Simon is the only cat to be awarded The Dickin Medal for gallantry under fire despite being injured.

A well-crafted story to the point of unputdownable.
