What cruising guides are the best to use on the British canals system? Are there more than one? As with many things, one usually stands out as the most commonly used... I hope I'm not going to start any kind of flame war amongst adherents to one or the other! I'm new to this... D |

Hello and welcome to the forum. CanuckontheCut wrote: I hope I'm not going to start any kind of flame war amongst adherents to one or the other! I'm new to this.. No, you have no need to worry ![]() I have always used and found the following very helpful. The following guides cover various regions and all the canals in those regions. Nicholson Waterway Guide/s Pearson Canal Companion/s Nicholson Ordnance Survey Inland Waterways Map of Great Britain. This actual picture shows a couple of my, 2 week trips highlighted Ordnance Survey Landranger These are not canal maps but they do come in handy if you don't know the areas and the canals are on them |

Thank you! I'll check those out. Do they change much year to year (the Nicholson guides for instance)? |

Whether you are hiring privately or not plenty of relevant information can be found on the UK narrowboat hiring companies websites for example, Black Prince Narrowboat Holidays HERE. (I have no commercial or private interests in Black Prince, other than being a satisfied customer) Of course there are others that you can also check out, why not send for some brochures/ |
