If you are new to boating, either hiring a boat for the first time or setting out with a boat of your own, some elements of the boating experience can be daunting.

How does a lock work? What do I do if I run aground? How do I tie a suitable knot? While other boaters are often happy to help it can be tricky trying to figure things out on your own.

The Canal & River Trust and Drifters, the UK’s biggest consortium of hire boat companies, have teamed up to make a new DVD covering boating basics. A companion to the existing popular boaters handbook, it contains lots of 'getting started' tips for hire boaters and new boat owners, as well as important information about how to boat safely.

Download the handbook here: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/media/library/141.pdf

Watch the DVD here: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/boating/ ... s-handbook
