BOATS AND CANALS

I've added a facility on boatshare4u.co.uk to search all the shares available from the main shared ownership management and share brokerage companies.

The list - currently including nearly 100 shares for sale - collects the latest information from the websites of ABC Boat Share, BCBM Boat Share, Carefree Cruising's Boat Share Shop (Boats2Share) and Ownashare Cruising. It includes self-managed boats offered for sale by any of these companies. The list is for information - boatshare4u.co.uk does not sell anything! - but there are links to the full details advertised on the respective websites and to the management company's contact details.

The list can be searched by a range of criteria, such as price, length, type of stern and age. Boat layouts are listed, as well as whether or not a syndicate allows pets or smoking. The selection can then be sorted by any of the details listed. The boat details are taken from our boats database - so, if you find something's not quite right, please let me know.

I think this is the first time a composite listing of shares has been available to prospective share owners, who can now concentrate their attention on just a few boats that meet their criteria and arrange viewings on those, rather than having to visit several different websites with the information presented in a different way on each one. Producing the composite listing has only been possible with the full support and co-operation of the management and brokerage companies. Unfortunately it is just not practical to include individual private share sale details or those from other websites that are not linked to boat management.

Thanks for the feedback, but can you be a bit more specific, please.

I've just run it on Chrome, Firefox and IE with a variety of different searches and all gave the results I expected.

I'm using Google Chrome. I can fill in the search box's but there is no submit button visable.

There should be a green bar with the words "Search for shares that meet your criteria". Clicking that should generate the list of shares. If the bar isn't showing, please let me know.

Found it now, it is mixed up with the wording at the bottom of the page.

We're currently listing 106 shares here.

The list contains all the shares advertised by BCBM, boatshare.co.uk, Carefree Cruising (Boats2Share) and Ownashare, so it includes both managed and self-managed boats. The list is updated daily. The search and sort facilities enable prospective owners to narrow their search and then click through to the details as posted by the respective company.

I've looked at the possibility of including shares in self-managed boats advertised elsewhere, but this has not proved practicable - one of the biggest problems being that adverts are not necessarily removed when the share is sold.

We carry a separate list of all the shared ownership narrowboats we know of - and I would be delighted to receive updates to make this list more accurate - especially from owners of shares in self-managed boats, where we have the most gaps in the data. Just click the boat name to show an update form.
