The Derby Canal Restoration is to benefit from a project to relieve flooding on the adjacent railway line.

Sounds good, will this stretch then be part of the canal network.

In the near term the answer is no but it does something very useful in planning terms as progress means the planning permission they have will not lapse and this protects the route.

This piece is nearest to the Erwash Canal end but will still need a new piece of canal to get under the M1. In the other direction it will need the futuristic boat lift built to get across the river.
