Jo and I visited the North Western end of Greywell Tunnel. The are is still owned by the Basingstoke Canal Authority so access is easy.

The tunnel mouth has a dam in it presumably to stop water flowing the wrong way into the derelict section rather than the navigable section.

we were told by a passing gentlemen that there are boats moored inside - presumably for inspection/maintenance purposes.

When I altered the sensitivity on my photo through the railing I could see them

Continuing down the canal we came to Eastrop Bridge still intact and carrying a track. We had lunch on top.

The next bridge is Slade's Bridge which has well maintained stop plank groves and what looks like a structure to enable easy insertion of stop planks.

Beyond the bridge is a junction with an arm to an old brickworks. Both the main canal and arm are very overgrown so I haven't included a picture.

It was a good trip, interesting and it did our heads good. We met a few people but everyone made a significant effort on the social distancing side so we felt fine.

Cheers Graham
