We can move the boat as long as we don't stay overnight.

See:-

We are now planning a family trip (just the 3 of us who live together of course) up to the boat take a short cruise then change the engine and gearbox oil. I have never been so excited at changing oil before.

Cheers Graham

It's looking good, for boat owners, what about shared owners. I didn't see anything.

Aren't shared boat owners still private boat owners - it is not a hire boat?

I have been thinking about this and as far as I can see I am allowed to travel to the boat and cruise it as long as I return home at the end of the day. As far as I can tell the boat is classed as being in an open space and their is no limit on how far I can travel to an open space and indeed C&RT have checked with the Government before allowing us to cruise. Furthermore we can do the whole things whilst maintaining the social distance rules.

However I can't help but wonder if travelling 200 miles to visit the boat for a few say 6 hours is actually morally wrong on the basis that it is unnecessary. However it would do wonders for our mental health which has taken a pounding during this crisis.

Cheers Graham

This would be my take on this.

I think many people could have health issues other than the virus itself that they need to contend with.

Shared owners are discouraged from visiting the boat as this gives rise to the problem of the boat requiring a deep clean after leaving.
Also we can only stay one night so as a lot of members travel long distances it's not worth it and most boat yards are also advising against visiting.

In line with the latest government advice for England issued today (23 June 2020), we are pleased to say that from Saturday 4 July 2020 all boaters in England can stay overnight on their boats and take extended cruises. Holiday hire boat companies will also be able to freely operate, taking precautions around safe practise, such as extra cleaning.

This means the waterways in England will be fully open from 4 July for boating, angling and paddle sports. Our towpaths remain open for people to enjoy exercise and being in the outdoors, close to nature.

In Wales, the restrictions on staying local will be lifted on 6 July, if conditions allow. A range of options for the reopening of self-contained holiday accommodation, such as boats, will be considered in a review on 9 July.
