It is nearly Jo's birthday. I am too polite to tell you the exact number. I have taken her canal cruising today.

We were picked up from Venus airport in a nice boat which promptly cruised at 25mph to Venice itself. It slowed down a bit for the Grand Canal.

The view from our bedroom is nice.

Oh dear, more canals tomorrow.

Cheers Graham

Happy Birthday Jo, whenever it is.

You both sure get around, it goes without me saying ENJOY yourselves and no doubt you will.

I must admit I found Venice too crowded, sadly I won't return.

There was a touch of Gondola rage outside our hotel today.

The touristy bits are crowded. We find Google maps good as it gives you the shortest route between places and this involves tiny alleys and quaint bridges.

We did manage to get a spot on the Rialto Bridge over the grand canal for a selfie! It using Jo's phone.

Cheers Graham

We did look at a hotel on the Grand Canal which was considerably more expensive but Jo decided she liked the more intimate style of this one.

Off on the Vaporetto tomorrow to visit the islands. Jo wants to see the cemetery island, apparently you can only stay in your grave for 10 years before they dig you up and put you somewhere else to make room for more arrivals.

Even the cemetery is overcrowded!

Cheers Graham

I looked at the hotel prices and was shocked, 10k Euro a night was a bit out of my price range :)

Yesterday we visited the cemetery island which does seem to have permanent residents. They are all 'buried' above ground in multi storey blocks. There is usually a photo of the deceased which on the case of the young children I found quite moving.

We moved on to Murano famed for glass ware, bought Jo a necklace from the person who made it which was nice. Then on to Burano famous for lace. I bought my sister a lace ballet dancer. Dinner here was cheaper and better than the main islands.

The canals are cute too.

Today it was up the bell tower on in St Marks Square. Paddle through the rising tide in the square itself. The water comes up the drains! Then a trip on a Gondola. Boy are they expensive! It had to be done though as Jo's Dad refused her a trip when she was young on expense grounds.

Perhaps you can sneak one of those gondolas home it would be quite a novelty for Accessible Boating. :D
