The Mikron Theatre Company will be returning to the little village of North Aston, just up the hill from the Oxford Canal at Somerton, on 27th July for a performance of their new show, Raising Agents - a celebration of 100 years of the Women’s Institute.

The action will take place on the Village Green, where marquees will be erected (in case the weather turns sour) and refreshments will be available. Bring your own chairs or a blanket, a picnic, and a sense of humour!

The story so far ...

Bunnington WI is a bit down-at-heel. Dwindling membership means they can barely afford the hall, let alone a decent speaker. So when a PR guru becomes a member, the women are glad of new blood. Initially. The milk of WI kindness begins to sour when she re-brands them the Bunnington Bunnies. They’re hopping. With stakes higher than a five tiered cake stand, a battle ensues for the very soul of Bunnington, perhaps the WI itself! On the threshold of one century into the next, this tale of hobbyists and lobbyists asks how much we should know our past or how much we should let go of it. Above all else, like the WI itself, Raising Agents is a story of friendship.

No tickets required. Cash collection after the show.
North Aston lies just off the A4260, mid-way between Banbury and Oxford.

It turned out to be a fabulous evening, and very well attended. The new cast this season are up to the usual high Mikron standard, and the original script and very amusing songs assured everyone of a rattling good time.

A selection of photos has been uploaded to the village's Facebook page, if anyone's interested:

Thanks for the link Thumper, looks like a most enjoyable show.

I was also interested in the church organ photographs.

The organ is quite impressive, I admit. We're now trying to raise the funds to restore the old one!

Mikron was, as always, excellent, and well worth seeking out if/when they're in your area.
