BBC Four Goes Slow

TUESDAY 8:00pm

The Canal (1x120 for BBC Four)
The Canal is utterly bold in its simple premise: an uninterrupted two-hour canal boat journey down one of Britain's historic waterways filmed in real time. Inspired by the concept of slow TV, when an event is filmed in real time, the film will be a rich and absorbing antidote to the frenetic pace of modern life. The audience will be able to take in the images and sounds of the British countryside, spotting wildlife and glimpsing life on the tow path, as if they were there. Guidebook facts about the canal and its history will be delivered by captions imbedded into the passing landscape.

Exec Produced by Emma Tutty for The Garden Productions and by Clare Paterson for the BBC.

Not exactly fast-forward: BBC launches 'slow TV' season that includes two-hour film of a canal boat trip with no voiceover

Watched it last night all 2 hours of it, interesting with black and white overlays with historic content,a bit soporific, I did drop off at one point! Wonderful High definition quality, many crap boats about, and obvious live a boards with their junk etc.only one sunk boat, not many boats on the move.

I would much prefer to have been on the boat in reality, but this programme does give an insight to those that have not travelled on a canal before.

My main criticism is that the snippets of information whilst informative appear in reverse, i.e. the last line came first and the first line last. This probably wouldn't be a problem to some but I found it a bit awkward.

I glanced at it and thought 'I'll go back to the new railway room (ex-garage) and keep painting. Cheers Graham

Yes i will agree, by the time you read the first line the last had dissapeared from screen.
