I've discovered a bit of corrosion behind the weed hatch, up against the fuel tank. I've cleaned it down to bare metal, primed and painted it. Whilst I was dong this it occurred to me that we don't ever paint inside the weed hatch. The back of the weed hatch is also the front of the fuel tank. I know that common practice is not to black the bottom as 'there is no oxygen down there' but the weed hatch is close to the surface so surely we should paint it when the hull is blacked?

Cheers Graham

I don't know the answer to this, but surely it can't do any harm to black it. Better be safe than sorry unless someone knows otherwise.

I think we should black it, it just hasn't occured to me before and the boatyards don't offer it when they back the hull. I remember a boat sinking n the Grand Union at Brentford after their bow thruster tube rusted through! This is another area that gets neglected. It was a good job they didn't sink about 20 mins earlier on the tidal Thames. Cheers Graham

Just cruised from Marple on the Macc. to Cheddleton on the Caldon and return, plenty of weed around on both canals but not a single visit down the weed hatch. Is this a record!

We managed to get in and out of Birmingham via Hatton and the Northern Oxford, did the Soho and Icknield Port loops and back to Calcutt with nothing on the prop. Went to Napton and back (about 2 miles) and got a mess of plastic and a sweat shirt around it!

Cheers Graham
