I came across this selective list of canal locks in the United Kingdom which have unique features or are notable in some other way. I thought that it may be of interest. Please add any that you think should also be listed here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ca ... ed_Kingdom |

I like their description of Foxton locks as follows :- Quote: Two "staircases", each of five locks, replacing an inclined plane. My understanding is the inclined plane was built to bypass the locks! |

It wasn't a commercial success and only remained in full-time operation for only ten years, being dismantled in 1926. There was but a project to re-create the Plane commenced in the 2000s, but has now been dropped due to expense. http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Foxto ... story.html |

I take it you own the page Laurie? If so it may be worth mentioning the turf-sided locks on the K&A and River Wey. If I think of any more I will let you know. |

Anyone can amend Wikipedia, this is why some of the information can often be incorrect or at the very least 'dodgy'. If you don't have an account your IP address is stored with the amendment.
