One of the people who was evicted has problems of an extreme nature.Read below.

CANAL & River Trust has a major problem when trying to reason with Maggie. Indeed, everyone has a major problem when trying reason or deal with Maggie as she has a very serious mental illness, explains a close acquaintance, who has asked not to be named for obvious reasons.

Maggie refuses to accept state benefit, housing support, health support, welfare care and support and medication.

Believes nothing wrong

She was a former solicitor and in combination with her serious mental illness, she believes that there is nothing wrong with her and that she is above the law and can take on CaRT (that is part of her mental illness). Her assigned medical support team have great problems in communicating with her as she also knows by law that she has the right to refuse any form of treatment.

The other side of the story petition numbers are now over 4000

It is very upsetting and sad when anyone is to be evicted from their home under the grounds listed. I am not sure what the actual legal position is with regards to re-housing them, but I can understand to those involved very often being re-housed isn't the problem, it's losing the home that they have lived in for many years.

Do these people own the boats that they live on and if so does this not put any restrictions on the Canal & River Trust.

The petition is far too one sided and I for one would never sign it, same with Greenpeace.

Laurie, I posted the extra information on this case because I thought it would give a better insight into the complications of dealing with with folk with mental health problems. There is more than one side to to this complicated situation and we should not jump to conclusions. CKP
