Series 2 will be on More 4. Just says on shortly. I personally think it will be on in March. There will be four programmes.

This is the only information that I can find at the moment.

Great Canal Journeys for More 4 will see national treasures, Prunella Scales and Timothy West take to the canals once again to embark on some more breath-taking stretches of the waterways in both Britain and France. The first series was More 4’s best ever performing original commission.

These insightful journeys will be full of charm, nostalgia, personal insight and heartfelt humour. The series will offer a vicarious encounter with the world of slow travel and the camaraderie of canal life as well as the chance to see beautiful countryside from a refreshingly new perspective.

Great Canal Journeys

Executive Producer: Dani Neumann

Production Company: Spun Gold

Commissioning Editor: Stef Wagstaff

Re last Fridays program, I find it quite entertaining spotting all the obvious errors. The Llangollen canal is not the most attractive canal in the British isles in fact it is quite mundane until you get to the last few miles. The first error spotted was the slate carrying wide boat, nothing to do with that canal, then the renaming of lift bridges as tilt bridges never heard that in my 50 year association with canals. The Hoffman rotary kiln is in fact on the Montgomery canal. No mention of the fact that the Pontcysyllte aqueduct is a word heritage site.

To treat the Yorkshire waterways in such a perfunctory manner was such a disappointment. You could make half a dozen programs in that area without loosing the viewer interest, its such an exciting area.In the days when I used to present talks my topic on Yorkshire waterways was one of the most requested. As a teacher would say Three out of ten, could do better!

Unfortunately as a series on our waterways I am very disillusioned and quickly lose interest. I only watch them in the hope that we might get a few minutes worth watching. I feel that John Sergeant is well out of his depth presenting this programme, I just cannot take him seriously. :(

Last Friday was on the Aire and Calder Navigation.---- Goole to Leeds.
Five minutes plus and we saw Hull and the Humber? When he got to Woodlesford the programme finished! Once again a programme that should have lots of potential ruined.

What i expected to be mentioned when the gardeners were planting at Woodlesford lock, was, that the garden area was set up by the wife of the late, great entertainer," Roy Castle" in his memory and there is a plack and bench in the garden.
Althoe Mrs Castle may have been approached by the reserchers prior to filming and declined a mention, i can accept that must be respected.

Tonight we are on the Caledonian Canal in Scotland, it connects the Scottish east coast at Inverness with the west coast at Corpach near Fort William. It was constructed in the early nineteenth century by Thomas Telford.

The Caledonian Canal in twenty eight minutes (if that). They are having a laugh. What are the odds John Sergeant rabbits on about some long lost ancestor from Scotland and tries to talk in a Scottish accent!
