Well some childhood memories may need revision.

I was at Pontcysyllte in the summer and, pointing at the dry dock, I informed Jo how formative that dock had been in my youth as it was where the Flower of Gloster started. Well it was where it started in the story but it was filmed in Dutton!

I always wanted to go up the canal in Birmingham into which they turned by error and had to go down a lock backwards. I remember the dry lock wall. Well it turns out that I went up the lock last year as it is one Oldbury locks leading Up to Titford Pools.

On the plus side Annette Robertson is every bit as cute as I remember and Jo forgives me 'cos she fancies the male lead Dick!!

I am limiting myself to one episode a day at around 4-5pm.

Cheers Graham

TV programmes often bend the facts to fit in with the story line and type of location required for any particular scene.

... are you sure that she isn't just trying to make you jealous? :D

I have reached the end of the series. A few navigational oddities again. They delivered the boat, Annette Robertson went her own way and the others set off to hitch hike home. The baddies were dissuaded from trying to beat them by being thrown in the canal but only after setting the locks against our hero's.

Afternoons at 4pm are now going to seem empty. I'll just have to watch it all again.

Cheers Graham

I don't know the series, so I can't comment.

I don't understand why the engine runs on petrol, surly the Flower Of Gloster was fitted with a diesel engine.
When they had stones thrown at them was very realistic.

A very enjoyable series, pity some of the scenes were very badly filmed, which surprises me being a union job, unless the cameraman was not use to film and was a TV cameraman.

I think it was powered with a Lister. Now I think about it I do remember Dick sending Mike off for petrol with a small can up Braunston locks I.e. away from the boatyards and wondering how far they would get on that. I need to watch it again but I think they went into Braunston and out of Blisworth.

Setting aside the obvious it was a window into a forgotten world and reminded me of how free my own childhood was. I loved it. Episode 1 tonight then.
