I received an email today telling me all about National Grid work on London's towpath.

Apparently I was getting this email because Dotterel has been sighted in London.

Well she hasn't been south of Marsworth since 2006.

So either their sighting system is rubbish or someone has cloned Dotterel, I wrote to them pointing this out.

Either could be a source of worry.

I have now found out it is a mistake in the extraction routine from their database, I know of 4 other boats who have also received the email and not been near London.

Cheers Graham

I didn't know that boat names are unique. I am sure that I have seen different boats with the same name,

Names are not unique but numbers are. They sight boats based on its number so if someone stuck Dotterel's number up in the window they would record it as Dotterel. It was an error by C&RT loads of boats from the Midlands were included on the email.

Thanks Graham that supports my thinking.

I have had a grovelling reply from C&RT admitting Dotterel hasn't been in London. It was a boiler plate reply.

Cheers Graham
