If it had escaped or been abandanded, in our winter climate it would not have been able to do anything. These are warm blooded reptiles and need high temperatures to survive, it's metabolism would slow it down so much it would go into hibernation. So for the police to say it could have attacked a person is very irrisponsible.
Like Glencairn says, it was most likly to have been a privatly owned reptile and was dead before hand.
